I’ll be honest; the generator market has been a challenge for all of us at Northern Wholesale Supply.  We have some issues with some units in the past and have worked hard to quickly resolve them to make sure both you and your customer are happy.  However, with these bumps and bruises we have become smarter in all aspects of the market.  We now have a better feel of what people want and how to provide it at a reasonable cost while maintaining quality and efficiency.  All of this experience and education has lead to the development of the new Extreme Max Power Digital Inverter Generators! Education at Northern Wholesale Supply

Great Reception at King Controls

Northern Wholesale Supply is serious about RV parts education. We want to be your primary supplier for parts as well as information. This education is done in a few different ways. One way is that we offer multiple (vendor based) training sessions here at Northern Wholesale Supply – primarily during the slower times of the year. Usually, this is an all day event (with lunch provided) where you send your parts and / or service people to get information directly from the source – the vendor.

Plus, the annual Northern Wholesale Supply Super Show held every January (Next years dates: January 11th & 12th 2012) at Treasure Island Casino Red Wing, MN is a wonderful opportunity to gain industry knowledge from the many participating vendors. This is done in two ways. First, with a full day “dealer seminar” – the day before the show – in which some of our most popular vendors offer product and sales training to dealers about their products. Second, you also have the opportunity to visit with each vendor one on one at their particular booth.

Our sales department, also, works hard to stay educated to be able to answer your questions quickly and efficiently. We have a weekly “product” meeting in which we go over new products to the industry and any changes to existing ones. We also quite frequently get visiting vendors to come into Northern and give us hands on demonstrations & training. Finally, occasionally we get to take field trips to visit vendors first hand and learn about their company and the products they offer. Recently we took one of these trips to visit King Controls located in Bloomington, MN.

The first thing you notice when you pull up to the King Controls parking lot is that the south side of the building is full of plastic bubbles that house “testing” satellites dishes. Our tour guide and teacher for the day, Sean O’Neill – King Controls, explained that when they looked for a building to house their operation they had to be sure that it had a clear view of the southern sky (to ensure the best signal for their satellite systems).

The atmosphere at King Control is clean, bright, and fun. We were exposed & educated on a number of products that we are supplying at Northern Wholesale Supply. Sean put on a number of hands on demonstrations to let us see his products in action. One such demonstration was the Jack antenna. Using simply the Jack Antenna, the Surelock signal finder, and a small TV he was able to get a large number of quality picture TV channels for free.

A second demonstration Sean put on was for their product called Dome Magic. This product blew me away with its performance. We took a dish outside and sprayed it with a garden hose to simulating rain. The signal immediately dropped from the mid 90% reception down to the 40-60% range. Then we wiped off the dish, sprayed a coat of Dome Magic and repeated the test. To my shock the signal stayed in the high 80’s low 90’s range. If I hadn’t been there and saw it with my own eyes I wouldn’t have believed it. Take it from me Dome Magic works and you should be selling it to everyone with a dish.

We continued our education by going over the other items offered by King Controls. We talked of the portable satellites – VuQubes, Roof mount Satellites w/ integrated off-air antenna features– King Dome Air, and finally we were given some insider information on what might be coming down the road in Satellite & off-air technology (sorry can’t spill the beans – top secret!). 2. Suspension Systems / Running Gear

It’s all about the travel

Whether you want to smooth out a rough ride or upgrade weak or aging parts Mor-ryde has the solution for your running gear needs.

Mor-ryde has two options for upgrading your standard stock equalizer that will improve your customers travel and thusly smoothing out their ride.

Option 1:

For your customers with larger mid to high end units (5200 to 7000 GAWR) there is the SRE 4000. It simply replaces their stock equalizer with a Mor-Ryde system that has 4” of shock absorbing travel. This increased travel means smoother towing, improved towability and better protection from damaging road shock. Furthermore, the kit comes with one cross-member brace to firm up their stock frame. This kit will ensure a smoother, stabile ride for your customer and a nice sale for your parts and service departments.

De-Winterizing

It’s coming. The busy season is right around the corner. While you’re planning your Open House this year don’t forget to spring forward your RV parts sales and service. This can be done with a simple shift of product, education, and some organization of some de-winterizing items & ideas.

Remember last fall when you set up your winterizing display? You took the time and effort to gather all of the pertinent products, add some signage, and show your customers how to properly put away their units for the winter. This work, hopefully, led to some parts sales and also some winterizing work for your service department. So, why not do the same for your customers when they take their units out for the spring – de-winterization

There are some products that are more obvious than other when it comes to setting your new section. My first thought when thinking de-winterizing is fresh water. It seems to me that winter is hardest on this area and its parts. Here is a list of items that you might include:

  • Fresh Water Sanitizers / Tabs / Dewinterizer (page 720 – RV Book)
  • Water heater items: Anodes / Drain Plugs / Relief Valves / Brushes (733-738 RV book)
  • Water Pumps (page 676-680 RV book)
  • Water Filters (page 701-709 RV book)
  • Water Hoses (page 716-717 RV book)
  • Service Special sign – Fresh Water (De-Winterize) rinse-out

Another product line that can fit in your new de-winterization section is what I will call spring maintenance items. These are products or services that get your customer unit ready (and looking good) for the road. Here are those types of items:

Finally, if you have room in your new section you might consider just a few of the most common “replaceable” parts that tend to break over the winter. You have them already in your store but moving them (or adding them) to a more visible area will help trigger your customer’s memory of things that they may have broken. Here are a few examples:
